wiretapping tools

Traditionally, threaded machining operations are relatively slow processing due to its limited visibility and necessary precision. Tapping technology becomes obsolete, not content to let STY fastening, spitzer, the owner of the brand, and supplier of global innovation fasteners and assembly technology, has to imagine using thread form to improve performance and increase the off-the-shelf availability.

“Compared to other processing operations, the thread form is relatively slow,” says Jeff Jungmann, a helix engineering manager. “The whole cutting has to be done in a small channel, almost invisible, so most mechanics are very conservative about their speed.”

Shortly after acquiring the company, Stanley engineering decided to restart the spiral line to achieve high speed, CNGC production and extended tool life. They also simplified the number of clicks selected so they could get inventory immediately.

“The faucet of these machines has been improved with the geometry of the machine, the surface coating, the Angle of the flute and the shape, the size of the nose and other key factors,” said Jungmann. “This not only increases the speed of production, but also significantly extends the service life of the tool.”

New thread type faucet includes four different styles: multi-purpose, t – 10 straight flute, cold forming, as well as high performance, which in addition to cold forming, there is a physical vapor deposition PHYD) coating, than typical faucet with nitride or lacquer finish more hard, more color, wear-resisting.

In order for the machine to take the form of threads and extend the wear life, there is a neck at the back of most of the sizes. The neck allows more coolant to enter the wiretapped hole, and there is more room for the chip to be removed from a blind hole. This reduces the accumulation of heat and further increases wear.

The PHYD coating can reach up to 50% faster than the previous nitride or shiny polished faucet, and can help the faucet cut smoothly in a deep hole without cooling or lubrication. In order to make use of difficult materials such as nickel-alloy and super alloy faster, the high performance faucet has added a double layer PHYD coating and used ultra-low friction surface coating on hard and heat-resistant base layer.

In order to reduce complexity and the availability of the internal stock, these four types of faucet are provided through holes or grooves at the bottom of the slot. Small changes in the shape of the flute have also increased the usability of a wider material for each style. For example, hooks, rake, and spiral corners are customized for specific purposes.

Every geometric change is made to increase the life of the tool. Since the point diameter at the front of all faucet is now larger, the faucet begins to cut the material and evenly distributes all the cutting edges, thus increasing the wear life.

“By improving the quality of the wiretapping tools, the mechanics can now be confident that they are doing the right cuts without being conservative at speed,” says Jungmann. “This allows them to use helical thread forms at higher production speeds to reduce cycle time.”
